Class 4: Pleasure Drenching
Pleasure Drenching & Body Clutter
If you’re reading this you’re walking around in a human suit. We’re spiritual beings in human suits. And peeps got body issues coming out the yin yang.
This is supposed to be fun people! This whole walking around in a body thing allows us to smell, taste, experience a tickle or the thrill of holding someone’s hand, we can run and kickbox and skip and ride bikes. We grow and birth humans! We can decorate it like a canvas with colors and textures. Just think of all the haircuts you could have in one single lifetime! Oh the creativity involved!
I know you’re not all experiencing your bodies in this way. But, that shit changes right now. No excuses. Put your Big Girl Panties on ladies (gents can man up with some jockey shorts), we’re confronting the care and feeding of our bodies and getting rid of our junk this week.
I used to write a blog called The Girl Revolution. It was an empowering girls blog and one of the more powerful things I wrote about over and over was body image.
For years I jumped on the bandwagon about how our body image issues, and those of young girls, is the fault of the media. I favored magazines putting more realistic images of women on their covers and in their pages. I wanted corporations to stop using women’s bodies for financial gain. I spent a lot of energy being incensed on behalf of women and our bodies.
It led me to this one truth.
How you feel about your body is your responsibility.
I know, this truth may not make me popular with my old crowd of body image activists. It may not make me popular with you, if you’re hell bent on handing an irresponsible capitalist media machine the power to make you feel feelings about your body.
Still. It’s true. It’s pure. It’s powerful.
Let me help you find the power in this. When you understand that how you feel about your body is your responsibility it gives you complete control over it. You don’t have to feel bad when you see pretty, thin women in magazines. You don’t have to feel bad even if they are Photoshopped. In fact, when you take responsibility for your own feelings about your human suit, it doesn’t matter one iota what the media or marketers do.
None of that matters. Body Image is about how YOU feel about YOUR BODY! This is a relationship between you and your body. It’s not a relationship between you and your mother, you and your best friend, you and media, you and magazines or you and your mate.
It’s how you feel when you put on a pair of jeans, how you feel when you look in the mirror, how you feel when you’re at the hairdressers, how you feel when you shut the dressing room door, how you feel when you’re working out, how you feel when you’re walking around in the world wearing the human suit you chose for this physical incarnation.
You make a hundred choices everyday about how you feel about your body.
Do you criticize, self-loathe, name call, guilt, shame, emotionally batter, punish, starve and chastise your body? Do you self-deprecate for laughs, dress poorly, withhold movement, sensation and pleasure? Toss that craptastic Body Clutter now.
Instead, buy the jeans that make you feel the best about your ass, treat yourself to a really fabulous haircut that flatters your natural waves, look in the mirror and think about the perfect arch of your brows and the brightness of your eyes, treat your body to a night out dancing, enjoying the sway of your hips.
Focus on the exquisite pleasures of your body: an orgasm, a kiss, the whisper of your baby’s hair on your nose, the pull of your nipple as you breastfeed, the adrenaline rush of a kickboxing class, the common luxury of a hot bath.
This is your body. Make it feel good. Feed it pleasure.
What does seeking pleasure have to do with clearing energy and cleaning out your space?
Everything.
When you seek pleasurable movement, old stuck grumpy energy moves out. When you seek pleasurable touch, your body literally releases negative feelings and emotions.
This is my favorite spiritual practice and I believe it’s one of the most important ones in our culture today.
So Dance. Cum. Kiss. Snuggle. Swim. Bathe. Get a Massage. Ride a Bike. Skip. Wear Pretty Things.
Pleasure Drench your way to a Happy Body Image.
